Sharks Ahoy! Visit the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, I-95 Exit 14N/15S. Seals, river otters and 1,000 other marine animals and see an awesome movie on the giant IMAXscreen. Take the ferry to the Sheffield Lighthouse for a tour and, an evening clambake.
Then head up Rte. 8 to I-84 East Exit 31 to ride the Boulder Dash, voted the #1 wooden roller coaster in the world at Lake Compounce Theme Park. Lots of water fun too, to wear out the kids for a good night’s rest in the Hartford area.
Next day, take a tube ride down the scenic Farmington River from Satan’s Kingdom State Recreation area, Route 44, New Hartford.
Then it’s all aboard at historic Essex Station for a sightseeing excursion on the Essex Steam Train & Riverboat, Rte. 9 Exit 3, Essex, a perfect way to end a great getaway.

Picturesque boat ride to the three-acre park with picnic area and 1868 lighthouse that has four levels and 10 rooms to explore. Clambakes and special events on the island. Adjacent to the Stewart B. McKinney U.S. Fish & Wildlife Refuge.

Farmington River Tubing
Excursions start at Satan’s Kingdom State Recreation Area, 92 Main St. (Rte. 44), New Hartford. Spend a few hours tubing on the Farmington River. Rentals include tube, personal flotation device and a ride back. Age restrictions apply.
