Ten Ways to Get Involved

The land we bought was literally “the site from hell,” but [design fellow] Matt Miller managed to design “pods” that we will be able to replicate on any site. I really think it could be the best built school in rural Uganda. Plus, he taught local community members so many new techniques that will help them (and us) in future building. —Carol Auld, client

Ten Ways to Get involved

To do what we do and to expand our work around the world we need your support. 88% of all our donations are spent on construction and design services. This makes us one of the most efficient charities in the United States. But we can’t make it without the support of folks like you. So here is our handy dandy guide to supporting Architecture for Humanity:

  1. Celebrate ten remarkable years with us
On May 2nd we host a tenth anniversary event in San Francisco (just after the AIA National Convention). Supported by Autodesk and Grey Goose.
  2. Donate for a year
Help make a difference by donating monthly and help us grow. Can’t do it online? Make checks or money orders payable to Architecture for Humanity and send your donations to: Architecture for Humanity, 848 Folsom, Suite 201, San Francisco, CA, 94107-1173
  3. Sponsor an architect for a day
Sponsor a designer for a day, a week or even a year and help us connect more design fellows to communities in need.
  4. Get Social
Spread the word on the social networks by sharing this note on facebook, linking or tweeting us on Twitter [we are @archforhumanity] or come to one of our events and blog about it.
  5. Enter the Challenge
With hundreds of millions of children in need of classroom space don’t just sit there, enter today and help improve the quality of schools around the world. If your design wins, your chosen school will receive up to $50,000 in funding and you get $5,000. Help make this our biggest design challenge to date!
  6. Spread the word.
Tell ten people about our work and how they can get involved. We are always looking for new talent and yes, we are hiring.
  7. Design it, Wear it
Up cycle an old t-shirt by April 30th and turn it into a ‘Design Like You Give A Damn’ 10th Anniversary shirt and wear your pride all year. Check the facebook event for more details. Prizes for best shirt and best photo of you – your dog – your best friend in it!
  8. Sketch like you give a damn
Coming later this year the ‘Power of Ten’ Moleskine Folio Architect series by Architecture for Humanity and Rickshaw Bagworks. Ten designers who give a damn lend their designs to create a limited edition series of folios.
  9. Host a ‘Ten Years of Beers’ event
Our chapters began life as ‘drinking for humanity’ events. So organize a local drinks event and who knows maybe you’ll be on your way to start a chapter in your community. I’ll be attending events in New York and London this week, so pop by.
  10. Store your support
In the late spring Lulan Artisans and Rickshaw Bagworks will come out with our 10th anniversary computer and shoulder bags. Proceeds from these bags will support our design fellowships and to build sustainable weaving centers in Cambodia.

Thank you.
