Antique Impressions

  • Pick your own apples, peaches and other seasonal fruit at the 1,000-acre Lyman Orchards at Rtes. 147 & 157 in Middlefield.
  • Then take Rte. 157 north to Rte. 66 east for some fun antiquing in East Hampton.
  • Travel south on Rte.196 and 149 to picturesque East Haddam. Browse the shops and stay overnight in a country inn or B&B. Next day, head west on Rte. 82 for a visit at Gillette Castle State Park, a 184-acre park overlooking the Connecticut River.
  • Then drive down Rte. 156 south and top off your visit with a relaxing repast at the 1756 Bee and Thistle Inn in Old Lyme. Don’t leave town without visiting the Florence Griswold Museum, an 1817 mansion and National Historic Landmark, the home of American impressionism.
